Cortaid was introduced by The
Upjohn Company in 1980. It contained 0.5% hydrocortisone and was
designed to provide relief for itchy skin irritations,
inflammation and rashes. It was available as an ointment and a
cream, and was immediately very popular. In 1982 a Cortaid 0.5%
spray was added and in 1985 a Cortaid feminine itch cream was
available.
A big addition to the Cortaid
product line occurred in 1991 when 1% hydrocortisone cream,
ointment and spray were available. The original 0.5%
Cortaid ointment was discontinued in 1987 but all the other
formulations were still being sold at the end of The Upjohn
Company in 1995.

The brand name Cortaid is no
