Dr. Richard Light, an Upjohn family member and Vice President of the company, had a passion for aviation in the 1930's, a time when it was still a primitive and uncertain way to travel outside of the U.S. and Europe. First here are some articles from 1935 issues of The Overflow covering his 29,000 mile round-the-world flight.

Dr. Light and his wife Mary also flew the length of Africa in the winter of 1937-38 and published a book of over 300 aerial photos from the trip, a few pages of which are shown below. This 20,000 mile flight was sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
