The Upjohn Diagnostics operation started in 1976 and was formalized as a business unit of the company in 1981. It was financially successful from the start. I can remember quality testing some of their products in the early 1980s. Diagnostics survived all the way to 2004 when Pfizer sold it. It is now called Phadia and owned by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
