In the
one hundred and two years from 1886 to 1988 there were no
layoffs in The Upjohn Company. None! It all changed in 1989
when company finances dictated that layoffs were needed. The
Employee Transition Assistance (ETA) program was introduced
to support these layoffs. It was a voluntary program and had
a generous financial package. 612 Upjohn employees took
advantage of it in 1989 and 500 more employees in 1991. The
documents below describe the 1993 ETA program. These were
provided by Loraine Pschigoda.
