The First Upjohn Employee Handbook

This is the first Employee Handbook, published in September 1944. Looking at everything the company offered to employees at that time it seems very progressive. Page 10 contains what is now unacceptable - preference in hiring was given to married men with families and to women with no other means of support. I'm told this policy was quite rigorously enforced. Apparently, single men and married women did not get jobs at Upjohn in this era. This handbook was in the collection of Joe Widman.
