This is
the first
Employee Handbook, published in September 1944. Looking at
everything the company offered to employees at that time it
seems very progressive. Page 10 contains what is now
unacceptable - preference in hiring was given to married men
with families and to women with no other means of support.
I'm told this policy was quite rigorously enforced.
Apparently, single men and married women did not get jobs at
Upjohn in this era. This handbook was in the collection of
Joe Widman.
