From 1964 to 1989 the Upjohn Company operated a clinical investigation unit at the state prison in Jackson, Michigan. Drug candidates were tested on inmates, who received financial compensation for their participation. Edward B Harvey was the long-time supervisor of the Jackson Prison Clinical Investigation Unit.
