From 1964 to 1989 the Upjohn Company operated a clinical investigation unit at the state prison in Jackson, Michigan. Drug candidates were tested on inmates, who received financial compensation for their participation. Edward B Harvey was the long-time supervisor of the Jackson Prison Clinical Investigation Unit. He died in 2020 and I have to say that his obituary is one of the most entertaining I've ever read:  Edward Harvey Obituary- Kalamazoo Gazette.
